Zero Registration & On-Device Calculations

RetireGrid provides educational tools, calculators, and information regarding Social Security benefits. We do not require user accounts, logins, or registration to access any features on our website. Inputs used for calculations remain on your device.

1. Overview & Information We Collect

RetireGrid is designed as a privacy-first educational resource. We do not maintain user account systems or profile databases.

  • Zero User Registration: Access to all calculators, estimators, decision tools, and articles is completely open without signing in or creating an account.
  • Local Calculation Data: Inputs entered into our calculators and tools are processed in your browser and are not sent to our servers. Some tools save your progress in your browser's local storage (see Section 2), which stays on your device until you clear it.
  • Technical Logs & Security: Like standard website servers, we log technical information such as IP addresses, User-Agent strings, referring/exit pages, and request timestamps solely to maintain server security, prevent DoS attacks, and optimize website performance.

2. Local Browser Storage (localStorage)

Our calculators and interactive tools utilize local browser storage (localStorage) to temporarily retain user inputs and preferences (such as tool progress, saved checklists, or state preferences) directly on your device.

This data remains strictly on your client device, is never transmitted to our servers, sold, or shared with third parties, and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser cache and local site data.

3. Advertising & Third-Party Cookies

We partner with third-party advertising providers, including Google AdSense, to display advertisements that keep our educational platform free:

  • How Google uses data: You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Third-party vendors and ad networks may also place their own cookies; you can manage these through the Cookie Preferences banner.
  • Third-Party & Google Cookies: Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites on the Internet.
  • Personalized Advertising Disclosure: Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Opt-Out Mechanisms: Users may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google My Ad Center or by utilizing the Network Advertising Initiative Opt-Out tool (or www.aboutads.info).
  • Cookie Consent Controls: Non-essential cookies are managed through our Cookie Preferences banner. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies at any time.

4. Analytics & Data Retention

We retain technical logs according to strict security timelines:

  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. It sets cookies and collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device type. In the EEA and UK, analytics cookies are only used if you accept them in the Cookie Preferences banner. You can opt out by declining cookies or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Security & Rate Limit Logs: Technical IP logs and rate-limiting metrics are automatically deleted within 30 days.
  • Temporary Server Logs: Standard web access logs are cleared automatically within 5 minutes to 30 days.

5. User Rights

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data to any third party. Under privacy frameworks including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • No data sales: We do not sell your personal information for money.
  • Advertising cookies: Advertising cookies from Google may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some state privacy laws. You can decline them through the Cookie Preferences banner, or opt out through the links in Section 3.
  • Your rights: Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email hello@retiregrid.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
  • Legal basis (EEA/UK): We use cookies for analytics and advertising only with your consent. Server logs are kept for security, under our legitimate interest in protecting the site.

6. Children's Privacy

RetireGrid is directed at adults seeking Social Security and retirement benefits information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

  • Changes to this policy: We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
  • External links: Our site links to other websites, such as ssa.gov. We aren't responsible for their privacy practices.
